Effective Football Warm-Up Exercises for Every Training Session

1. Requirements

Unlimited number of players
One ball per two players
8 hats

2. Organisation

Place 8 cones evenly spaced around the centre circle, with 2 players and 1 ball at each cone.
Place a cone in the centre of the circle.

3. Description

Players run three relaxed laps around the field as a warm-up.
After the three laps, they stretch before starting the exercise.

Exercise 1 – Stopping the ball + body exercises
Player 1 leads the ball to the centre, stops it, and returns while performing body exercises.
Player 2 starts as soon as player 1 begins the body exercises. Player 2 performs body exercises and then goes to retrieve the ball.

Exercise 2 – Cut + pass
Same as exercise1, but now the player cuts the ball in the middle and passes it to player 2.

Exercise 3 – Cut and return with ball
Player leads the ball to the centre, cuts in the centre, and returns with the ball at their feet.

Exercise 4 – To the opposite side + cut
Same as exercise 3, but the player does not lead the ball to the centre, but to the opposite side of the circle.

Exercise 5 – Dribbling along the inside of the circle
Player 1 leads the ball at a high speed along the inside of the circle.
When player 1 is back with his teammate, he passes the ball to player 2, who starts his exercise.

Exercise 6 – Running without the ball (activation)
Player 1 runs at a fast pace along the inside of the circle without the ball.
As soon as player 1 returns to his teammate, player 2 starts the same exercise.

4. Coaching and Focus Points

Coaching:

Ensure that physical exercises and ball control are performed correctly.
Pay attention to the pace of ball handling and precision when cutting and playing the ball.
Encourage communication between players and focus on technical refinement.


Points of attention:

Work in intervals of 3 minutes of effort and 3 minutes of rest.
During the rest period, players can stretch or perform simple ball exercises in pairs.
Adjust the pace and intensity of the exercise depending on the level of the players.
